Mārtiņš’ key practice is Dispute Resolution and Financial Restructuring & Recovery. Mārtiņš also advises clients in such areas of practice as Real Estate and Construction, Energy. Prior to joining the firm, Mārtiņš was an Attorney at Law at such law firms as LAWIN Kļaviņš & Slaidiņš and Kronbergs & Čukste.

  • Representation of 18 Nordic Partners group companies and three private individuals in a claim for damages in the amount of more than EUR 8,2 million. The case has obtained wide resonance in Latvia, being possibly a previously planned hostile takeover, it involves such companies and brands well-known in Latvia and beyond its borders as sweets producers Laima AS and Stabura dze AS, beverages producer Gutta AS (currently Orkla group companies).
  • Represented ALPHA SHIPPING COMPANY SIA as a defendant before a court of arbitration in respect of the claim on recovery of principal debt and default interest relating to transport and accommodation services when the crew of the vessel is seconded.
  • Representation of DIZCILDI SIA as the defendant in a court case dealing with reimbursement of advance payment and damages (in amount of EUR 500 000) against Hochtief Solutions Baltics SIA (a daughter company of Germany based company HOCHTIEF Solutions AG) caused by delay in road construction.
  • Represented the client Liepājas Osta LM in a dispute with Stemcor UK, where achieved that the claim for damages worth USD 18 978 894 filed by Stemcor UK against the client was completely rejected.
  • Represented LKB Līzings SIA, a subsidiary of Latvian bank AS Latvijas Krājbanka in a court case against the claimant AB JET SIA and third person Air Baltic Corporation, requesting finding null and void its obligation to return the loan of EUR 4 million.
  • Acted for the insolvent Latvian bank AS Latvijas Krājbanka under liquidation in the matter on invalidation of financial security agreements and financial instrument purchase agreements and recognition of the right to 14,190,202 convertible bonds issued by Air Baltic Corporation, with their total value amounting to EUR 20 190 838.
  • Represented two private entrepreneurs from Uzbekistan and a company, in a complicated “raiderism” case – a hostile takeover of a company previously owning a 5-star hotel in Riga (Royal Square Hotel & Suites). Total value of damage caused exceeds EUR 10 million. The case involved Primus assistance in various civil, administrative and criminal proceedings, as well as court proceedings in Scotland. Representation was performed in collaboration with recognizable Scottish Law firm Burness Paull.
  • Represented KPMG Baltics SIA as administrator of Latvian bank AS Latvijas Krājbanka, defending against the claim to declare a transaction on financial instruments (disposal of Air Baltic Corporation shares) in amount of EUR 340 000 void.
  • Represented major shareholder of AS Liepājas Metalurgs (as defendant) in a damage recovery dispute initiated by Gesil Limited, amounting to appr. EUR 2 million.
  • Represented KPMG Baltics SIA as administrator of the insolvent Latvian bank AS Latvijas Krājbanka in a court case against the claimant Baltic Airlines SIA, requesting postponement of its obligation to return the loan of EUR 6 504 054.
  • Represented a LKB līzings SIA, daughter company of the insolvent Latvian bank AS Latvijas Krājbanka, in arbitration in Netherlands against a major foreign engineering company Spyker to collect a debt in amount of EUR 2 353 000.
  • Representation of several banks, including advice to UniCredit Bank AS on restructuring of loans, repossession of assets from distressed loans including legal opinions, representing the bank’s interests in litigation proceedings, insolvency proceedings and public auctions. As from 2010 the team has rendered advice on loans in the total amount of more than EUR 30 million (2011-2013); representation of Estonian bank LHV Pank AS at court on recovery of debts. Mārtiņš also has advised DNB Bank AS with respect to restructuring of loans, including, drafting of respective agreements, presenting of legal opinions and representing the bank’s interests in litigation proceedings. As to date Primus has around active 80 debt recovery cases on behalf of DNB bank AS and its subsidiary, DNB Līzings SIA.
  • Advising SIA Juglas Jauda, the owner of third largest co-generation or combined heat and power station (burning fossil fuel) in the Republic of Latvia (the two plants that rank first and second respectively are TEC 1 and TEC 2, CHP stations that are government owned) on day-to-day issues, acting for the client before court in civil proceedings relating to breaches committed during the construction period of the CHP station and administrative cases relating to challenging of decisions made by the Public Utilities Commission, successful representation in court proceedings against insurance company in a dispute for damage recovery in the amount EUR 120 000.
