Photographing and filming events under the General Data Protection Regulation

On 17 December 2018, Dienas bizness published an article by Andis Ozoliņš, Attorney at Law, and Linards Birznieks, Legal Assistant at PRIMUS DERLING, on compensation of photographing and filming events under the General Data Protection Regulation.

As the holiday season approaches, we are increasingly faced with personal data processing issues. When invitations to public or non public events are received, they often indicate: “the event will be photographed and filmed. With the arrival at the event, the consent to the processing of personal data is given.” Such information or similar information has become an integral part of the invitations. However, is it the only legal basis for this type of data processing and whether the organisers of the event are aware of all the consequences thereof?
