“A highly competent and flexible team.” (IFLR1000, 2016)

Managing partner rotation in Derling Primus

Derling Primus Estonian office is using a novel management rotation system and from January 1, 2020, the new managing partner will be Piret Blankin. Hannes Vallikivi will continue as a partner and lawyer and will remain responsible for the firm’s international relations.

“According to our partnership model, managing partner rotates every three years. Law firm managers most often practice law themselves. Periodic change will help managers to stay strong professionals and, at the same time, it will bring new ideas to the management and keeps the organisation open for changes,” explained Hannes Vallikivi and continued: “Piret has been a member of the firm’s management group since very beginning. Both clients and colleagues praise her.”

Piret Blankin commented on her mission as the new leader: “Derling Primus will continue what we are trained for – to support our clients in their business and help them to solve legal issues, and to do that in a clear and efficient manner. Estonian legal market supports growth and we wish to recruit new lawyers in all major practice areas.”

Piret Blankin has over 20 years of professional experience. She is focusing on real estate, construction and administrative law and has represented clients in many sophisticated and high-profile disputes involving windpark development, Rail Baltic project and the M/S Estonia catastrophe investigation. She holds MBA (Estonian Business School, 2017) and is thus among the very few law firm managers with management education.

Derling Primus was founded in April 2016. Within just a few years, the firm of 27 lawyers in Tallinn and Tartu offices and 80 lawyers in total in the Baltics has become a leading law practice in Estonia. Chambers, Legal500 and IFLR1000 rank the firm highly and Estonian business daily Äripäev placed Derling Primus Top 2 financial adviser in November 2019.
