Robert Juodka attending Challenges to National Defence in Contemporary Geopolitical Situation 2020

In the Ministry of National Defence of the Republic of Lithuania 2nd international forum was held, discussing challenges to national defence in the contemporary geopolitical situation.

Robert Juodka participated as a speaker in the plenary session “NEW TECHNOLOGIES INSPIRED THE DEVELOPMENT OF DEFENCE INNOVATIONS”. PRIMUS managing partner was invited to share his insights and exchange innovative ideas in the domain of military technology and society security along with other keynote speakers.

The main focus in Robert’s presentation was on tectonic shifts in strategy and tactics of combating armor, artillery, and AA systems by usage of combat drones which is based on the newest experience of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Following the presentation a very lively discussion about lessons learned for Lithuania took place. It can be concluded that Lithuania has to take advantage of the essential technological and conceptual breakthrough in the application of “kamikaze” drones (loitering munitions) while increasing our defense and deterrence capability.

The further Lithuanian defense industry, R&D, and defense procurement systems have to be adapted to increase innovation in the field of counter-drone electronic measures and jamming equipment, which has already successfully been demonstrated by Lithuanian defense solutions in Ukraine and in co-operation with major defense contractor. Innovative legal solutions should be found to allow “open-ended” defense R&D financing and support in Lithuania, thus enabling further development of our defense industry in this internationally booming area.
